According to statistics from the National Police Agency, Ministry of the Interior, there are about 8,000 stalking and harassment cases reported in Taiwan every year. In recent years, more and more "crimes of passion" murder cases have occurred with the victim being, or had been, in a relationship with the guilty party. According to the survey conducted by the Modern Women's Foundation in 2017, 90% of victims are women; nearly half of victims are young people under the age of 30, and one out of eight young women had been stalked or harrassed.

The Stalking and Harassment Prevention Act passed through three reading stages in government last year, and will officially become effective on June 1, 2022.
