  • Tittle: Free tuberculosis screening services for new immigrants
  • UpdateDate: 2023.04.27
To improve the prevention and control of tuberculosis and reduce infection rates, local governments are providing free screening services for high-risk groups. This year, five major groups, including those on kidney dialysis, patients with diabetes or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, those in long-term care institutions, and new immigrants, will be provided with free screening services to strengthen the prevention and control of tuberculosis. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the first thing people think of when someone coughs is COVID-19 or long COVID. If a person experiences symptoms such as coughing for two weeks or more, sputum production, chest pain, weight loss, loss of appetite, and fever, they should be alert to the possibility of tuberculosis. This year, the eligibility for free screening services is expanding to include those on kidney dialysis, patients with diabetes or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, those in long-term care institutions, and new immigrants. The Taiwan Centers for Disease Control also reminds new immigrants that they can avail of these screening services for free as long as they have not received treatment for tuberculosis or been infected in the past. For details, please contact your local health bureau or health center.
