To promote multicultural exchange and
understanding, the New Immigrant Family Service Center of the Northern District
of Miaoli has specially organized the Exotic Tastes of Home – Multicultural
Culinary Workshop. Through the interweaving of international cuisines and
memorable stories, the event will lead participants into the landscapes of
different cultures so they may experience the deep human connections and
emotional bonds behind food.
New immigrants from different countries are
invited to share representative dishes from their hometowns and life memories.
From familiar home-cooked meals to traditional delicacies of special festive
significance, each dish is as much a symbol of flavor as it is a memory from home
and cultural inheritance, and a story of how people from abroad settle in Taiwan.
Participants cannot only enjoy delicious food
but also gain a deeper understanding into the cultural contexts of various
countries. Also featuring in the event is "Story Sharing Time",
during which new immigrants can personally recount the story behind their
dishes to bridge the gap between cultures and promote cross-cultural
understanding and respect.
The New Immigrant Family Service Center of
the Northern District of Miaoli is hosting this workshop on May 31st (Sunday)
from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM. This event will not only be the feast for senses but
also a platform for different cultures to see and understand each other so we
can break down barriers and help build up a more friendly and inclusive
environment through the most accessible medium in daily life – food.
This organizer invites eligible new immigrant
families to participate. Since spaces are limited and will be allocated on a
first-come, first-served basis. Please contact Social Worker Cheng on 037-634428
to register.
