Afternoon Tea by the Train: Discovering
the Invisible Connection Between Indonesia and Miaoli 🚂✨
At the Miaoli Railway Museum, time seems
to stretch gently along the railway tracks. Today, our protagonist accepts a
friend’s invitation to have tea with a Hakka elder.
As the elder shares stories about the
Hakka spirit in Miaoli—respect for heaven, compassion for others, resilience,
and deep devotion to faith—she listens intently. She suddenly remembers hearing
about this growing up: “Isn’t this exactly what the elders in Indonesia used to
tell us?”
It turns out that whether in the mountain
towns of Miaoli or in the Hakka communities in Indonesia, the same spirit of
hard work, perseverance, and devotion to family lives on. Through a simple
activity like having tea, our protagonist realizes that her connection to this
land is closer than she ever imagined.
