Sharing Love Through Diverse Cultures –
Unity in Diversity
In celebration of International Migrants
Day, established by the United Nations on December 18, 2000, Miaoli County
Government will host a multicultural event on December 8 from 9:00 AM to 12:30
PM at Zhunan Sports Park. The event will honor exemplary new immigrants,
promote international cuisine, and advocate for new immigrant rights, featuring
vibrant cultural performances from various countries.
This year marks a significant change under County Magistrate Chung's
initiative, implemented on March 1, to restructure new immigrant and indigenous
affairs. Unlike previous years, this year’s event is organized for the first
time by a new immigrant association, the Miaoli County Taiwan-Fujian New
Immigrant Love & Care Association. From planning to execution, the event is
led by new immigrants themselves, highlighting participatory budgeting and
showcasing unity through collaboration with various associations, including the
Miaoli Toufen City Qiaozhen New Immigrant Association, New Immigrant Family
Development Association, and Taiwan-Hainan New Immigrant Care Association.
Leveraging the multilingual advantages of new immigrants, the event will
feature a dual-host format, incorporating hosts who speak the native languages
of new immigrants to seamlessly guide the audience through the program and
activities. Additionally, indigenous cultural elements will be integrated into
the performances, enriching the event and making it even more dynamic and
captivating.
Several outstanding new immigrants from various fields and countries will
be recognized for their achievements and contributions to Taiwan. Among them
are Zhao Yuxuan from Dahu, Sha Caihong recommended by Gongguan Township Office,
Chen Meiling from Zhunan, Huang Fengjuan from Nanzhuang, Nguyen Thi Vu from
Houlong, Tan Li from Miaoli City, Lin Nana from Touwu, Peng Xiaoling from
Tongxiao, Wu Wenli from Tongluo, and Wu Youling from Zhunan. Their inspiring
stories of resilience and determination in Taiwan exemplify the strength of the
human spirit.
In addition to the award ceremony, attendees can savor international
delicacies, including Thai Spicy Fried Chicken, Tom Yum Kung, and Thai Glass
Noodles Salad. Indonesian offerings will feature Tumpeng (turmeric rice),
handmade cookies, and fried spring rolls. Other highlights include Vietnamese
traditional sticky rice dumplings, various Hunan braised dishes, Wenzhou
Glutinous Rice Cake, Salt Crusted Baked Chicken, and Roujiamo (Chinese
hamburger). This diverse array of cuisines not only delights the palate but
also bridges cultural gaps, fostering a unique cross-cultural culinary
exchange.
Another key highlight of the event is the advocacy for new immigrant
rights. Through engaging presentations and thoughtful services, staff will help
new immigrants better understand their local rights and benefits, covering
employment, education, healthcare, and family support. Detailed information
will be provided to assist new immigrants in integrating seamlessly into their
local communities.
This event aims to promote respect and
inclusivity for diverse cultural groups, fostering harmony and stability within
families and society. By breaking down cultural barriers, new immigrant
families can unite in building happy, thriving households, showcasing courage
and perseverance. The event invites the public to view new immigrants from
various perspectives, encouraging empathy and understanding, thereby spreading positivity and creating a harmonious
society. Everyone is welcome to join the festivities at Zhunan Sports Park,
enjoying the delightful cuisines and cultural performances that celebrate the
richness of new immigrant communities.
