As the Mid-Autumn Festival approaches, the Southern Miaoli New
Immigrant Family Service Center is hosting the “New Immigrant Mid-Autumn
Multicultural Gathering – World Feast BBQ” on Saturday, September 20, 2025,
from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the center. We warmly invite new immigrant families
from Vietnam, Indonesia, and the Philippines, and local residents to join this
celebration. About 30 participants are expected to come together to share
delicious food, stories, and games in the spirit of reunion.
The event centers on the tradition of Mid-Autumn barbecuing, featuring
a wide range of foods. To ensure everyone can enjoy this delightful culinary
experience, halal beef, lamb, chicken, and seafood will be prepared for our
Muslim friends, alongside Taiwanese favorites such as corn, mushrooms, and
dried tofu for a festive atmosphere of “when one family barbecues, the whole
neighborhood enjoys the smell.”
Multicultural Sharing Highlights:
Vietnam: Showcasing star lanterns and sharing stories of childhood
celebrations of the Moon Festival. Indonesia: Introducing the unique mooncakes
of the Chinese-Indonesian community, with reflections on the similarities with
the Eid al-Fitr celebrations. Philippines: Bringing the lively “Pua Zhongqiu”
dice game, a traditional Mid-Autumn activity in the Filipino-Chinese community.
The evening will also feature Vietnamese, Indonesian, and Filipino
folk music, blended with storytelling and interactive games to create a joyful
atmosphere where participants can deepen mutual understanding and respect.
This gathering combines the warmth of the Mid-Autumn reunion with
multicultural exchange. Through barbecue, food, and games, new immigrant
families can strengthen their sense of belonging and participation, while local
residents can gain a deeper appreciation of Southeast Asian cultures. We aim to
foster a more welcoming and inclusive community together.
Let this cross-cultural Mid-Autumn gathering extend the spirit of
“when it's a full moon, people come together” into an experience of exchange
and acceptance. New immigrant friends are encouraged to register and join us
for an unforgettable World Feast.
