To foster interaction between new immigrants and the local community
while celebrating the culturally rich Dragon Boat Festival, the Southern Miaoli
New Immigrant Family Service Center in Miaoli County is hosting "A Joyful
Dragon Boat Festival – Celebrating Diversity Through Culture and Cuisine"
on Saturday, May 25, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the New Immigrant Community
Service Center in Houlong Township (No. 61-3, Zhongxin Road, Puding Village,
Houlong Township, Miaoli County). We warmly invite all new immigrants and their
families to join this festive gathering and experience a unique take on the
Dragon Boat Festival!
The event will spotlight the “Zongzi Flavor Showdown,” where
participants can enjoy hands-on fun making traditional Vietnamese and Hainan-style
sticky rice dumplings (zongzi), and compare their flavors with Taiwanese-style
zongzi and Fujian-style deep-fried savory fritters. Attendees will not only get
to savor the tastes of various cultures, but also learn about the traditions
and stories behind how different countries celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival,
deepening their appreciation for the cultural warmth behind the holiday.
New immigrants will also share customs and stories from their home
countries, allowing everyone to enjoy the beauty of multiculturalism in a
relaxed and friendly setting. This exchange offers the local community a chance
to better understand and embrace the cultures of new immigrant residents,
fostering mutual respect, understanding, and inclusion.
The event is open to 30 new immigrants and their family members on a
first-come, first-served basis. Don’t miss this festive celebration of food,
culture, and togetherness — let’s make unforgettable memories this Dragon Boat
Festival!
