Activity Update

  • Tittle: "Herbal Artisan" Floral Herbal Drinks and Herbal Ball-Making Workshop
  • UpdateDate: 2026.08.14

The “Floral Herbal Drinks × Herbal Balls” empowerment program will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 16, 2026, on the first floor of No. 553, Zizhi Road, Miaoli City. The event is expected to welcome 20 new immigrants and their family members. Through hands-on activities, participants will learn about the use of herbs in different cultures and explore possibilities for future employment and developing a sideline business.

Miaoli is an agricultural region rich in a wide variety of herbs and medicinal plants, including mugwort, perilla, chrysanthemums, and mint. Most new immigrants primarily use these plants in their daily family life or festive dishes, with relatively few opportunities to further develop them into marketable products or services. Statistics from the center show that approximately 53% of new immigrants are currently unemployed, indicating a clear need for employment services and opportunities to develop professional skills. Many hope to find flexible side hustles that allow them to balance work and family responsibilities.

Many new immigrants come from Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, and other countries and are already familiar with common Southeast Asian herbs such as lemongrass, turmeric, and galangal, as well as their traditional uses. However, language barriers and limited access to information often make it difficult for them to transform their existing cultural knowledge and experience into professional skills or services.

In response to these needs, the program centers on floral herbal drinks and herbal balls, combining locally grown Taiwanese herbs with Southeast Asian herbs. Through this one-day workshop, participants will learn to identify plants, make products themselves, and consider how these skills can be applied in areas such as beauty and wellness, massage, household cleaning, and farmers’ markets, providing inspiration for future employment or additional business opportunities.

The workshop will also feature an experienced new immigrant who has established a career in the beauty and wellness industry. She will share her practical experience in incorporating traditional herbs into skincare products and SPA services, as well as provide guidance on cost estimation and pricing. Through the workshop, participants can expect to further develop their professional skills and expand their employment and side hustle business opportunities while combining herbal knowledge from different cultures to create distinctive local products and services.

The event is open to 20 new immigrants and their family members. Places are limited and registration will close once capacity is reached!
