For many new immigrants, especially those in their first year here as it is the most crucial time when adapting to a new life, it is a completely new journey that involves moving from a familiar hometown to an unfamiliar environment with challenges even beyond language barriers. They could even experience cultural differences, transitions in family roles, different lifestyles, and unfamiliarity with the local community and social system.

To ensure that new immigrants feel supported and cared for during their initial period in Taiwan and that “they are accompanied, listened to, and helped,” the New Immigrant Family Service Center of the Northern Miaoli District has launched the "A New Life Doesn't Have to be Lonely" support service. The service addresses aspects such as adapting to a new life, emotional support, interpersonal connections, and assistance with resources so that new immigrants are accompanied every step of the way as they familiarize themselves with life and the environment in Taiwan.

"We hope the new immigrants in their first year in Taiwan not only learn how to adapt, but also feel accepted and seen." This event will be held from 9 am to 13:30 pm on September 20th (Sunday). Adapting to a new life is not something that happens overnight; it is a process that takes time and support. Through community resources, social work services, and a supportive environment, we aim to help new immigrants gradually transition from feeling "unfamiliar" to "familiar," and from feeling "lonely" to building "connections" so they can find a sense of belonging in their new community.
