To promote multicultural exchange and empower new immigrants, and with the guidance and support from the Miaoli County Government, the center is holding the "Crossing the Borders of the Moon—A Workshop for New Immigrants to Make Mooncakes from Exotic Lands" from 1:30 pm to 6:30 pm, on September 10, 2026 (Thursday) at the Puding Community Activity Center, No. 61-3, Zhongxin Road, Puding Village, Houlong Township, Miaoli County. Thirty new immigrants and their families are expected to participate. The activity will guide participants on how to make mooncakes, combining Taiwanese and international styles. Participants will also learn about diverse festival cultures, and open a new chapter in cross-cultural culinary exchange and new immigrant empowerment.

This workshop features lectures by professional instructors from Taiwan and Indonesia, with cultural assistants from Vietnam and Indonesia to provide support. The multicultural team will guide participants through the unique Mid-Autumn Festival culture of the Indonesian-Chinese community. As well as introducing the cultural customs and culinary features of the Mid-Autumn Festival among the Indonesian-Chinese community, the course will also embrace a hands-on experience of pairing traditional Indonesian herbal teas with mooncakes. Participants will therefore be led to appreciate the diverse interpretations of "reunion," "sharing," and "blessings" across different cultures through such festive food.

The event will also feature a mooncake-making workshop, where instructors and cultural teaching assistants will personally demonstrate and lead participants through the process, from kneading dough and wrapping the filling, to shaping the finished product. Participants can experience the charm of foreign food culture firsthand through "learning by doing and learning by eating." As each mooncake takes shape, the atmosphere should be filled with festive cheer and laughter, ensuring the imagery of the Mid-Autumn Festival reunion to be extended beyond palates, and ensuring warm exchange, understanding, and sharing among different cultures.

The other highlight of this event is the "Entrepreneurship Experience Sharing of New Immigrants." New immigrant women who have already live and work in Taiwan and have gradually settled are especially invited to share their experiences of how to integrate their hometown culinary culture into the Taiwanese market. They will also share practical experiences of how they cultivate interests, develop products, and transform what they do into micro-entrepreneurship. Through real life stories and entrepreneurial journeys, participants can hear of diverse possibilities for new immigrants' development in Taiwan. This experience should provide practical references and positive support to new immigrant families who are interested in micro-entrepreneurship or developing their hometown's distinctive cuisine.

The center stated that food is not only a part of daily life, but an important medium for promoting understanding and exchange among different cultures. The "Crossing the Borders of the Moon" workshop is based on the Mid-Autumn Festival and centered on cultural exchange, combining international cuisine, making mooncakes, and sharing entrepreneurial experiences. The event aims to help new immigrants to move beyond being cultural inheritors and become participants in cultural exchange and creative practice, and showcase their energy, diverse cultures, and infinite possibilities for local development.

As highlighted by the center, it will continue to work with the Miaoli County Government in promoting welfare services and multicultural empowerment policies for new immigrants. Through joint cultural learning, skills training, experience exchanges, and resource sharing, the center aims to encourage new immigrants to leverage their cultural expertise and life experiences to enhance their local participation and self-development capabilities. The center also aims to promote community understanding and an appreciation among residents of different cultures. Through repeated exchanges and learning, the centers hopes that multiculturalism will intertwine and mutually benefit everyone in Miaoli to develop a friendly, inclusive, vibrant, and diverse society.

This event is expected to recruit 30 new immigrants and their families. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
