Flower Arrangement Course

The “Flower Arrangement for Festivals Hands-on Course” will be held on July 24, 2022, at the New Resident Community Service Station, Dahu Township, from 9:00 to 12:30, and from 13:20 to 16:30 at the Service Center for New Immigrant Families. New resident participants will learn to arrange a flower filled with blessings and create lovely gifts for loved ones. We invite new residents to the Service Center for New Immigrant Families to celebrate Father's Day in a very special way.

The “2022 New Resident Skills Learning Course – DIY Pottery” will be held on July 16 at Xinfu Community Center in Yuanli Town, from 09:10 to12:30 and on July 17 at Yuanlin Community Center in Nanzhuang Township from 9:10 to 12:30. The course welcomes people from Hakka Village in Kalimantan, Indonesia, to teach new resident families about pottery-making and learn more about the local pottery-making industry in a fun way.

Family activities

On Saturday, July 23, 2022, from 8:00 to17:00, new residents are invited to the farm and Zhuolan Town of Miaoli County to meet the new resident who operates a successful vineyard. New residents and their families can also learn about local agriculture in a fun, family-orientated way.

Environmentally-friendly Orange Detergent DIY Course.

The Orange Detergent DIY Course was held at former Fenghu Elementary School (No. 5, Bashichi Bridge, Zaoqiao Township, Miaoli County), from 8:00 to17:00 on April 10 and 17 2022. In the class, the participants learned to use a variety of fruits and vegetables to make environmentally-friendly detergents for themselves. They made good use of oranges and grapefruits, the featured fruits of Miaoli County. Not only can these detergents be used to wash hair, face, and body, but can also be used to wash clothes, dishes, or clean the house. The cost of self-made detergent is low and can reduce expenses for the family. On the other hand, by participating in the course, new residents can enhance the concept of environmental protection and learn to take appropriate action. New residents also learned that it’s not difficult to appreciate natural resources and protect the environment at the same time. Everyone can implement this lesson in daily life.

The Visitor Care for New Residents Training Program 2022

was held on Sunday, March 6, totaling 13 hours. The Service Center for New Immigrant Families of Miaoli County holds an interpreter training program every year. However, without fixed employment being offered, when the unit requests a qualified interpreter, it is relatively difficult to find one. To earn a living, most of the qualified interpreters have full-time jobs, making it difficult to find temporary interpreters. This year, we would like to rely on the language skills of foreigners living locally and obtain their assistance to care for new resident families in the Miaoli County jurisdiction. As an interpreter and fellow immigrants, they can support new resident families to pass through the adaptation period and expected emotional slump, creating unity amongst them in this beautiful land.

The Difference Between Multiple Cultures- Cold Food Festival- New Immigrant Multi-Culture Lecture

The Service Center for New Immigrant Families of Miaoli County held “The Difference of Multiple Cultures- Cold Food Festival- New Immigrant Multiple Culture Lecture” at Shuiyuan Village Community Activity Center (No. 8, Lane 1291, Zhongzheng Road, Miaoli City) on March 26, 2022, from 9:00 to 12:30 and from 13:30 to 17:00 at Sanyi Township’s New Immigrant Community Service Station (No. 315-56, Shuimei, Neighborhood No. 29, Shengxing Village, Sanyi Township). Chinese eat tangyuan on winter solstice day. However, the process of making and eating Vietnamese tangyuan is quite different from that of Chinese customs. The Vietnamese custom is to eat cold food during the Cold Food Festival. They believe that it will balance the heat of summer and keep the body healthy. On the third of the third lunar month, almost every family will prepare tangyuan as the main offerings to worship gods and pray for the ancestors to bless their families.

2022 New Immigrants Multi-Culture, Parent-Child Communication Activity. Parent-Child Fun, “Farming Time”

This activity was held at Hoboizhuang Village Ecological Farm, from 8:20 to 17:00 on Sunday, March 20, 2022 (No. 264, Jixiang Road, Shangxing Village, Toufen City). Hobeizhuang Ecological Farm employs a Hakka farming culture, where crops are planted in an environmentally-friendly way. Combining information on the Hakka rice crop and cultural experience activities by dividing the farm into several sections (paddy fields, vegetables, and fruit sessions, chicken and duck farming sessions, turf sessions, and indoor handcraft in the classroom). Mr. Liu Ming-fang, the owner, uses his childhood experience of playing in the fields to create farming activities for the children. The children planted rice seedlings and experienced the fun of catching fish in the fields. These prepared lessons equip children to grow organic vegetables and fruit for themselves and experience the simplicity of farm life. New immigrants were invited to walk outdoors with their family members to participate in the activity as well as to enhance the parent-child relationship and momentarily relieve parents from the burden of child-care.

2022 New Residents Multi-Cultural Lecture:” The Difference between Multiple Cultures” (Vietnamese Lantern Festival)

The lecture was held on Saturday, March 12 at the Service Center for New Immigrants of Miaoli County (Rm. 2, 9F., No. 1, Zhanqian, Neighborhood No. 16, Shangmiao Village, Miaoli City). The morning session ran from 10:00 to 12:30, and the afternoon session from 13:50 to 16:00 at the New Resident Community Service Station of Zhunan Township (No. 452, Guangfu Road, Jiaxing Li Village, Zhunan Township, Miaoli County). After new residents arrive in Taiwan, they spend traditional Chinese festivals with their spouse’s family. However, the festivals of their home country are quite different from those of Taiwan. To help the next generation (as well as the family members of new residents) understand the traditional festivals and cultures of the residents’ new homeland, we organize this event so that the new residents can spend the Lantern Festival with their fellow citizens in Taiwan, even though they are far from home, missing the festivals of their own culture.

Visiting Maternal Parents on the Second Day of Chinese New Year – Family Potluck Reunion

Chinese New Year is the most important holiday in Taiwan. Married daughters visiting their parents’ home is part of Taiwan’s traditional customs. However, for new immigrants who married Taiwanese and moved to Taiwan, they are unable to get together with their families in their home countries often. In order to relieve new immigrants’ homesickness, Miaoli County Gratitude Charity Association hosts “New Immigrants Visiting Home – Family Potluck Reunion.

Lantern Festival Is Celebrated Multiculturally

New Immigrant Family Service Center at Miaonan district cooperates with National Immigration Agency Central Affairs Section Miaoli Service Station to host “Marriage Management – Couples Communication Seminar.” The seminar invites Counseling Psychologist, Shuzhen Yang, to share tips of family management to increase the understanding of cultural and lifestyle differences between multicultural couples. The couples can accept the differences and adapt to each other through communication. It is hoped that this seminar can improve the couples’ relationship and invite them to participate in DIY lanterns to celebrate Lantern Festival together. Miaoli City Office will also invite to promote folk activities related to Spring Festival and 20th Anniversary of Hakka Fire Dragon Dance. New immigrant families are encouraged to participate in community folk activities to know more about local cultures. The seminar is offered on February 24, 2018, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30.
